NEW YORK CITY CLOTHING BANK BRINGS HOLIDAY CHEER TO STUDENTS AT CARL ICAHN CHARTER SCHOOL IN THE BRONX

NEW YORK, December 15, 2008— New York City Clothing Bank gave the gift of a warm winter coat to high-performing K-4th grade students at the Carl C. Icahn Charter School in the Bronx today.  Approximately two hundred students had the opportunity to choose brand new coats, gloves and hats in the size and color of their choice. Children attending Carl Icahn Charter School achieve at a significantly higher level on New York State exams, with scores well above the district, city and state averages.

NYC Clothing Bank co-hosted this coat drive with YESSolutions!, a not-for-profit solution-oriented program that provides a wide range of services for the poor and elderly living in New York.

This coat drive was part of a partnership between NYC Clothing Bank and Operation Warm to donate 1,000 new winter coats and other cold-weather apparel to underprivileged children throughout the five boroughs of New York City.

Operation Warm helps provide new winter coats to kids in need through strategic partnerships with donors and community organizations. The organization’s vision is that every child wearing a new winter coat is healthy, is able to attend school regularly, and has strong self-esteem.
