THE BAREFOOT WINE® BEACH RESCUE PROJECT RETURNS TO
MAKE 25 BEACHES ‘BAREFOOT FRIENDLY’
Singer Mason Jennings Joins Initiative with Barefoot Wine & the Surfrider Foundation
MODESTO, Calif. (June 1, 2009) – Barefoot Wine proudly announces the third year of its Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project, a partnership with the Surfrider Foundation - a grassroots, nonprofit environmental organization dedicated to the protection and preservation of the world’s oceans, waves and beaches. Founded in 1984, this year marks the Surfrider Foundation’s 25th anniversary, and to celebrate the milestone, the Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project will help rescue, renew and restore 25 new beaches and lakes this summer.
Each year, over 25,000 beaches in the United States are closed or posted as unhealthy.1 To help change this, Barefoot Wine is asking Americans across the country to kick off their shoes and help “heel” a beach this summer. Musician Mason Jennings, who is signed to Jack Johnson’s Brushfire Records, will join volunteers on the beach and perform live at special celebrations that follow a number of beach rescue events. Jennings will perform songs to thank those that took time out to get involved. Additionally, Jennings will be taking proceeds from his new track “Sunlight,” which will be exclusively available online for the duration of the Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project (June 1– August 30, 2009), and donating them to the Surfrider Foundation. The track comes from recording sessions for his new album due out late Summer 2009.
“Beaches have a special place in my heart. I have wonderful memories of running along the Jersey Shore with my grandpa and boogie boarding with my brother in Hawaii,” said singer Mason Jennings. “I am really excited to be a part of this project. Having two sons of my own now, I want to keep our family’s traditions alive by helping our beaches for generations to come.”

The Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project is one way that Americans are learning to leave nothing but footprints behind and preserve our beaches for generations to come.”
