VOTE TO HELP SAVE AMERICA’S SHORES
Barefoot Wine® launches an online fundraising initiative to support the Surfrider Foundation
MODESTO, Calif. (June 1, 2009) – Have you ever wondered what you can do to help keep your favorite beach beautiful? The Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project has the answer. To raise awareness about major Surfrider Foundation environmental campaigns in celebration of Surfrider’s 25th anniversary, Barefoot wine is donating $25,000 to directly help support local Surfrider Foundation chapters and their efforts to protect America’s shores. Now through August 15, 2009, Barefoot is encouraging everyone to learn more and cast their vote for one of four Surfrider Foundation campaigns in need of more awareness and financial support.
The four selected campaigns will each receive a minimum of $5,000. The campaign that receives the most online votes will take home an additional $5,000 to help put toward the cause. The Surfrider Foundation campaigns include:
- Clear the Path – Beach Access (Oahu, HI)
- Challenge Beach Management Permitting Practices: Stop Harmful Beach Fill Projects (West Palm County, FL)
- Save Gaviota Coast: Preserve the Gaviota Coast From Development (Santa Barbara County, CA)
- Sink the Breakwater – Restore the Shore (Long Beach, CA)
Complete campaign projects are profiled on BarefootBeachRescue.com.
In addition to the online voting initiative, Barefoot wine is helping “heel” beaches across the country. Throughout summer 2009, Barefoot will host 25 beach cleanups with the Surfrider Foundation. The project is a result of the award-winning California wine partnering with the not-for-profit Surfrider Foundation to make America’s beaches “barefoot-friendly.”
“For the past 25 years, we have worked tirelessly on environmental campaigns aimed at keeping our beaches safe and healthy,” said Matt McClain, Surfrider Foundation’s Director of Marketing and Communications. “Barefoot wine’s support helps raise awareness for important causes that affect each and every one of us regardless if we live on the beach or in middle America.”
Barefoot, the most awarded wine under $15, is an active supporter of various non-profit organizations and has worked with Surfrider Foundation for over 15 years. Since its inauguration in 2007, the Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project has donated $450,000 to Surfrider Foundation in support of its mission to improve coastal water quality, promote free and open beach access, preserve coastal ecosystems and protect public beaches around the world.
“To commemorate Surfrider Foundation’s 25th anniversary, we’ve committed to hosting 25 beach cleanups and give those who cannot physically attend an event the chance to help through this campaign voting initiative,” said Jeremy Soine of Barefoot Wine. “Through the Beach Rescue Project, Barefoot Wine and Surfrider Foundation are trying to change the way people think about and respect our shores.”
